Jan.1 Excuses to get loaded:

Happy New Year! In Russia we celebrate New Year from Dec 31 to Jan 1 all night through, so I suggest 3 drinks, which just symbolize 3 stages of New Year party but not limit diversity of booze could be drink. Let`s start with Vodka sour light (you will be eat and drink much during russian party so it will stimulate your appetite with sour taste and prepare you for a long time drinking by small initial dose of spirit). When the party started you should drink only one kind of booze and it should be Straight if you want to stand longer. After several hours of party when control was lost booze games time comes. I introduce you a Siberian drink Bear comes.

Vodka sour light

Juice of Half of Lemon; Half tsp. of powdered sugar; 1 oz. of Vodka. If serving outside of Russia shake with ice and decorate with a half-slice of lemon and cherry. Inside Russia double vodka and serve up without ice and decorations.

Straights

When you drink straight you should: Drink Vodka or Scotch. Drink with shot glasses. Wash down each glass with somthing (I use apple juice, orange juice or water). Eat more (meat, bacon or another substantial food will be good).

Bear comes

Take vodka and beer at your taste. Pour vodka to old-fashioned glass. Take a sip of it and make up for vodka in glass with beer. Than take an another sip and again pour some more beer to the glass. Repeat it untill beer will replace vodka in the glass. Attention! "Bear comes" is very strong thing, so you should not fill the full glass with vodka, when you pour beer to the glass do not pour more than a sip you just pour. And this drink could be drinking by turns with your friend as a ritual of brotherhood.

Jan.10 Reason to drink:

In Benin they celebrate Day of Vodun (also known as Vudun, Vodon, Vodoun, Voudou, Voodoo etc.). One of West African religion which inspired movies directors all over the world.

Let`s try Voodoo cocktail.

1 shot of vodka; 1 oz. of coffee liqueur (kahlua for example). Shake with ice and strain into old-fashioned glass.

1 oz. of Malibu coconut rum; 1 oz. Kahlua coffee liqueur; 1 oz. of Butterscotch schnapps; 2 oz. of milk. Shake with ice and strain into old-fashioned glass.

Duggan McDonnell propose more elegant recipe of Island Voodoo cocktail:

1 1/2 oz. of Rye whiskey; 1 oz. of Averna; 1/2 oz. of Limoncello. Shake with ice, strain into cocktail glass and garnish with a flamed orange peel.

2 tsp of Apricot Brandy; 3/4 oz of Apple Brandy; 1 oz of Sweet Vermouth ; 1 tsp jf Lemon Juice; 1 tsp of Pineapple Juice; 2 dashes of Orange Bitters.
